reflective essay


A Reflection on My Writing


of all English skill, writing was the one I hate most. I used to be terrified of it. Whenever I was given a writing assignment I was lost at where to begin. Thousand ideas are doodling in my branch, but I don’t know what to write. More over when the lecture gives comment, my confident sank like the titanic. However, day by day, I enjoy it because I use to do it. I began to get a sense in writing. And nowadays, doing writing is not as difficult as I though. It only needs to reduce the negative thought toward it, and do writing base on the lecture has taught me.
            As the first time my lecture asked me to write, I felt very confidence and excited. At that time writing was a piece of cake. However, when the lecture commented on it, my confidence started to melt like an ice cream in a summer day. The mistakes were like an iceberg. From that I realize writing is not easy as I think. When my lecture give some knowledge about writing from the topic sentence until quoted someone else idea. I start to do hard in writing time. I used to lose at where I began to write, and I used to write in doodling. Then I know in the first step I should to do brainstorming and mind mapping the idea first. Furthermore, there are many type of essay, and all of them have its own way to write.
            Sometimes writing is like a cringe word. It is because some unpredictable things come up there, such as doing quoted. I used to write someone ideas without caring the quoted rules, and actually it’s called plagiarism. Then the lecture gets us to accustom to do and recognize it. In writing academically, our idea has to be supported by experts’ idea, and it has own way how to write it. I have gotten a good theory from my lecture toward that case, its called sandwich theory. There, we have to put other idea between ours. Furthermore, paraphrasing is also the difficulties thing in doing quotation, I don’t have any proper word or phrase in do it, and I should to pay attention on it.
From these writing classes, I realized that how we love or hate writing does not determine our skills. There is always a room for improvement if we are bad at something. We would receive negative feedback to empower and encourage us to be better. What is important is we keep on learning and improving.

Before I join this class, I used to know GOOGLE as the only search engine (actually there are thousand search engine available), I did not have any idea about web. I used to have the surface skill of today technology exactly internet using, BUT this time less and more I get some advantages. I wont to forget it, because it is the first for me in using

WHAT IS PREZI ?

Prezi is a cloud based presentation software. Prezi is distinguished by its zooming user interface which enable users to zoom in and out of their presentation media.

HOW TO USE IT ?

Prezi is used as platform for bridging linear and non-linear information, and as a tool for both free-form brainstorming and structured presentation. Text, images, videos and other presentation media are placed upon the canvas, and can be grouped together in frames. Users then designate the relative size and position between all presentation objects and may pan and zoom in and between these objects. For linear presentations, users can construct a prescribed navigation path. And surely you need to sign up first.

Lesson plan

In this week we learn how to create a lesson plan, it really important for who teacher to be, and here what I have made.

LESSON OVER VIEW
Lesson Topic or Title  : writing  formal and informal letters
Grade Level                : Senior High School

Class/Semester            : XI/2nd

Goal(s)                        : Getting students to understand the differences between formal and informal letters is an important step towards helping them master differences in register required for writing in English. These exercises focus on helping them improve their understanding of the type of language that is used in an informal and formal letter.
                                                                                                                                
Lesson Summary        : Students will find some differences between formal and informal letter and evaluate between the language and the requirements of both letters. They will compare and contrast different of the both letters. Student also will generalize of each letter. Students will use table organizers to gather information ideas to put into writings and presentations. The Internet will allow them to search various versions  about the letters. Element of result searching will be identified.

Approximate Time Needed

This lesson will take 2 hours/90 minutes

Lesson Objective

Understanding the difference between formal and informal letters, vocabulary practice, writing practice.

Lesson Procedure

Pre
·         Ask the students, do they know how to write formal and informal letter
·         Ask the student to write a letter

While

·         Tell them we are going to study how to write formal and informal letters
·         explain them briefly what are formal and informal letter
·         Show them the formal and informal letter in a page by using projector
·         Tell students they will now work in teams of 5
·         Ask each of group to list the differences between both letters.
·         Correct the students task and explain once again.

·         Ask students to match the phrase 1-11 and match them with a purpose  (in order to used the students in get understanding of writing letter)

·         ask the students to write a letter by Choosing one of the three subjects below to their friend or family member.
  1. Write a letter to sister that is living far from you. Tell  her about your current  conditions.
  2. Write a letter to a cousin and invite them to your Mauled ceremony.
  3. Write a letter to a company that you want to look for a job.
·         Show the students paper task by using the projector and ask the another students to correct the letter that displayed.

Evaluation/Assessment
Rubrics will be used to assess the letters that students have made, that some categories will be required, consist of they understanding in distinguishing the differences both letter, grammar using that will also consider, and vocabularies using that they have provided in the letter that they have written.


Accommodations

1.    Suggest the student to have a class in the library, therefor they will easily find the material. 
2.    By working in group, the student who  has difficulties in writing could ask to his friends.
3.    Let students use a spelling dictionary
4.    Let students to seek the material in the internet
5.    Ask students to write in stages so it will be easier them in correcting errors.

REFLECTION 4

Describing the ABCD behavioral learning objective

here is my behavioral learning.

a.       Audience – who are my learners
I have 32 students in my class. All of them are intermediate level, they are second grade of senior high school. Commonly they master English, but not the grammatical, because they speak English in their daily live by ignoring the structure.
b.      behavior- what do I expect them to be able to do ?
by joining my class, I hope my students able to communicate English in daily conversation well.
c.        condition-How ?under what circumstances will the leaning occur? What will students be given to know to accomplish the learning?
Before I going to teach, I will ask my students what theirs difficulties at before class, then I would like to explain them. By using some text book that in line with standard curriculum. To make easier in teaching sometime I use some technology, such as laptop with internet connection. I use projector rarely if  I offer them some material that they need to watch.
d.      degree-how much ?
after joining this class I hope I get 100% for what I have though them. But no body perfect, they have different ability,  and fortunately most of them could get  80%


REFLECTION 3
SETTING UP LEARNING GOAL

I am teaching at a senior high school of a bilingual boarding school, there are 32 students. Most of them are familiar with English because they are accustomed to use English in everyday life, it becomes one rule of a boarding school. Unfortunately that they are used to ignore structure in using English, so that some of them are less controlled in grammar using. But I can conclude that their English proficiency are in intermediate class.
For this situation I suggest that they should learn how to use English grammar right, in this moment I used to tried to familiarize them with the conversation at the end of the conversation I will correct the grammatical errors, and we have discussing related to structure. But I often get them to write, because writing can be directly repaired and easy to understand. Sometime I divide my student in some groups then they may finish their task together that they have to consider in front of the class.
At this school, a language lab and computer lab are available, but internet access is limited, it just provided for teacher only. So sometimes I just use language lab and also suggest my student to go to WiFi zone that outside of boarding school to find some material that good for they get. But sometimes for listening section I used to use tip recorder or my own laptop. So by used to write, listen, and speak they will improve their English skill, especially in grammar.
So I hope by used to repair their grammar, and keep their English environment their English skill will be more perfect.

4 RD Reflection

We are as a teacher to be, sure that we have a lot of planning how to improve our students skill. It is little hard for us as a teacher to teach in global era, there are so many sophisticated thing are available that commonly our student have better skill then us. Fortunately our lecture asked us to  make a little planning about our future student class. Today we find a lot of technology  available that will help us in teaching process, we have to know how to use them, so by familiar with that all it easy for us to elaborate the material and teaching is not the problem. But one impotent thing that we know how to educate our student in order to keep their balance development among their cognitive, affective, and also physicomotoric.
Well friends, there are a lot of link that provided what we need as a teacher, just like www.linkeducational.com  etc, we can use that all for our preparing to be as a next educator.
